Grapevine Real Estate & Information

Welcome to Grapevine, Texas, a growing community on the shores of Grapevine Lake northwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW). This lively city of approximately 47,800 residents has over 19,400 households. It is part of the Metroplex area between the two anchor cities.

Dining and shopping

Texas is the fifth largest wine producing state in the nation and eight wineries are part of Grapevine real estate. The wineries offer tasting tours during the year and their products are sold in local stores and restaurants.

Historic downtown Grapevine is the place to find many of the city's 200 restaurants. The Glockenspiel Clock Tower is in the heart of the town. At noon and every three hours after, two mechanical train robbers named Nat and Willy come out to announce the hour. This event can be seen from A.J.'s on Main, specializing in barbecue, chili and homemade smoked sausage.

Other Main Street eateries include Weinberger's Deli, Dino's Steak and Claw House and Main Street Bistro and Bakery.

Italian cuisine is the highlight of Zappole at the Gaylord Texan Resort near the lake.

The Texas Star Dinner Theater presents the Loan Star Murder Mystery, a leading attraction in Grapevine. Live music is offered at the Palace Arts Theater and other locations in the city. Blues, jazz and country music are performed on five stages at the annual Grape Fest in September.

Shopping includes the Grapevine Mills Mall outlet stores in a 1.6 million square foot complex. This mall includes the high-end stores for clothing and other retail services. A Legoland Discovery Center is located across from the mall. The Sea Life Aquarium is in the same area.

Main Street is home to many boutiques and galleries including Willow Cottage for children's clothing and gifts. Closet Treasures and Giddens Gallery of Fine Art are part of Grapevine's historic downtown.

Recreation and parks

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad offers three excursions most of the year including a Stockyards Trinity River ride and various Fun Trains. The Jazz Train is usually scheduled for March. The historic train follows the old Cottonbelt route to connect Dallas and Fort Worth.

Grapevine Lake is the major recreation area with eight parks and three marinas. Three of the parks allow overnight camping. Boating and fishing are major activities on the lake which also has hiking and bicycle trails. Swimming, wake surfing and water skiing are summertime activities. Resort cabins and boat rentals are also found around the lake.

The new Multi-generational Recreation Center is scheduled to open this year with new equipment and facilities for children and adults. Dove Park, Pleasant Glade Pool and Spray Park offer summertime water fun and swimming lessons. Parks, including the Heritage Park Botanical Gardens, are accessible to people with disabilities.

The Great Wolf Lodge and Water Park is another popular recreational attraction in Grapevine.

Living

Grapevine real estate is located on and below the south shore of the lake. It is bordered by East Texas Hwy 114 on the west and International Parkway on the east. The city is proud of its "old west" heritage with the restored historic downtown area. The most recent statistics show the median family income in Grapevine in the $93,000 range.

Grapevine is a lively suburb of the two larger cities with homes in all price ranges. A three-bedroom two-bath home with 1,280 square feet can be purchased for approximately $200,000. Larger homes are available from $350,000 and up depending on the location. Lakeside homes can be found in the $500,000-plus range. 

Townhouses and condominiums start at approximately $150,000. Condo units in the Princess Towers high rise on the lake are available for $700,000 and up. 

Schools, Health, and Transportation

The Grapevine - Colleyville Independent School District has one high school, two middle schools and six elementary schools in the city. Great Schools has given the GCISD schools a rating of 8 out of 10.

In addition, the district offers iUniversity Prep, an online virtual learning academy stressing technology. The program is offered to students throughout the state. 

Grapevine real estate includes Baylor Health Care Systems that maintains the Baylor Regional Medical Center in Grapevine. This health care system treats people of all ages for all conditions. The center includes 24-hour emergency care.

Care Now maintains an emergency clinic at Grapevine Mills.

The Grapevine Visitors Shuttle provides service between DFW and the historic downtown area and local hotels. The Northeast Transportation Services provides disabled citizens door-to-door service between Grapevine and other nearby communities.

Fort Worth Transit Authority is completing the TEX rail project that should expand rail service through Grapevine to the airport. The service is expected to start in 2016.
